Keyword Overview – SERP Analysis

URL Level Metrics

The SERP checker tool shows you the following metrics for each URL:

  • Page AS: The Semrush Authority Score for the specific page that ranks in the SERP, taking into account factors like backlinks and organic traffic
  • Ref. Domains: The number of unique websites linking to the URL
  • Backlinks: The number of backlinks to that URL
  • Search Traffic: The total organic traffic driven to that URL in a month
  • URL Keywords: The total number of keywords that URL ranks for

Pro tip: Click any of the numbers in the table to learn more. For example, clicking the number in the backlinks column will show you all the links pointing to that page.

How to Use This Data

The Page Authority Score of a ranking URL indicates the overall authority of that page. You can use this along with the referring domain and backlink columns to understand how likely you are to rank on this specific SERP.

For example, let’s say lots of the ranking pages have thousands of backlinks from various domains. While backlinks aren’t the only factor to consider for ranking, it’s going to be tough to compete if your page doesn’t also have lots of links pointing to it.

Then, use the Search Traffic column to understand the traffic potential if your page were to also rank on this SERP.

But remember: this is the total organic traffic driven to that page for all the keywords it ranks for. So don’t ignore the final column.

Clicking the total number of keywords a given URL ranks for takes you to the Organic Research tool. This shows you all the keywords that page ranks for:

This is a useful way to find out what terms you should optimize your own page for.

Pro tip: You can hit the “Export” button at the top right of the table for further analysis later on. Or to send reports directly to your clients.

Domain Level Metrics

The tool shows you the following metrics for each ranking domain:

  • Domain AS: This is the Authority Score of the root domain, taking into account factors like all links pointing to it (not just the ranking URL) and its total organic traffic
  • Backlinks: The total number of backlinks pointing to the root domain
  • Search Traffic: The total organic traffic driven to the domain in one month

Pro tip: As with the URL view, click the numbers in the table to see a list of backlinks to that domain. Or get more information about where that domain’s traffic comes from.

Why Use Domain Level Metrics?

Entering your domain gives you an easy way to see how you stack up against the competition.

Compare your own domain’s Authority Score, backlinks, and traffic to those ranking in the SERP for your target term.

This gives you an idea of how easy or difficult it would be to rank for this term, summed up by the handy “Your potential” marker:
